We offer comfortable dentistry for your family.
Nonsurgical Treatments
Gum disease treatments that do not require surgery include:
Professional Dental Cleaning
Your dentist will remove the tartar and plaque from below and above the gum-line during a regular checkup. If you have some periodontal disease symptoms, your dentist may recommend professional teeth cleaning at least two times per year. Although dental cleanings do not treat active gum disease, they are essential preventive measures.
Root Planing and Scaling
Root planing and scaling refer to a deep-cleaning procedure whereby your dental hygienist scrapes away tartar and plaque from below and above the gum-line (scaling) and smooths rough spots on the tooth root (planing). Planing removes bacteria and provides gum tissues with a clean surface to reattach to the teeth. Oral hygienists do root planing when they establish that you have plaque and tartar under your gums.
Surgical Treatments
Gum disease surgical treatments in Surprise, AZ include:
Pocket Reduction Surgery/ Flap Surgery
During this procedure, dental specialists lift your gums to remove plaque, often performed by a dentist near Happy Trails Resorts, Surprise, AZ. In some cases, they smoothen irregular surfaces of the affected bones to reduce areas where disease-causing microorganisms can hide in the mouth. The experts then place back the gums to ensure the tissue fits comfortably around the tooth. This procedure reduces the gap between the tooth and gum, thereby reducing areas where detrimental bacteria can grow and minimizing the chances of developing severe health issues related to gum disease.
Bone Grafts
Bone graft procedure involves using your bone fragments, artificial bone or donated bone to replace bone damaged by the infection. The grafts provide a platform for bone regrowth, which restores teeth stability.
Soft Tissue Grafts
This operation strengthens thin gums or fills in spots where gums have receded. Experts stitch grafted tissue, usually taken from your mouth's roof, thereby adding tissue to the damaged area.
Guided Tissue Regeneration
Dentists perform this procedure when the bone that supports your teeth becomes destroyed. This procedure stimulates the gum tissue and bone growth, and it is done together with flap surgery. It prevents the gum tissue from growing in the area where the bone is supposed to be, enabling the connective tissue and bone to regrow to offer better teeth support.
